BRINTONS, the world’s largest manufacturer of Axminster carpets, attributes its success in the Gulf region to its commitment to strong design and top-quality products.
“After all, strong design provides valuable differentiation and a top-quality product ensures a long-lasting impression,” says Graham Fellows, a spokesman for the UK-based company.
Brintons has played a major role in the successful delivery of various properties in the Gulf, including the brand-new King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kaust) and the Intercontinental Hotel Taif, both in Saudi Arabia; the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai, and the Hilton International Hotel, Abu Dhabi, both in the UAE; and the Landmark Hotel in Amman, Jordan.
The 226-year-old, family-owned company was commissioned to work on these projects on the strength of its design leadership and the quality of its finished product that can be seen in hospitality, airport, public space and entertainment properties all around the world.
Its latest commission sees it involved on yet another landmark – the Qatar Education City Convention Centre (QECCC) in Qatar, where the company is currently working on a contract to design and supply 17,000 sq m of its hard-wearing Axminster carpet. QECCC illustrates Brintons’ expertise in the conferencing arena, where – to ensure it meets the strict construction requirements – it is developing a new, innovative and environment-friendly installation system for its carpet that has never been used before anywhere else in the world, according to Fellows.

Designed by Yamasaki Architects, the QECCC will boast iconic design and cutting-edge facilities. It will also be the first conference centre of its kind to be built to the gold certification of the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Leed).
When completed in 2011, it is expected to be the largest purpose-built convention centre in the Middle East.
Brintons’ global sales and marketing director, Jon Stone says: “The mechanics that go into the management of a project like the QECCC are akin to the workings inside an expensive Swiss watch and are relevant to every project we undertake.
“Yes, we have to deliver the finest carpet and consistent and reliable product solutions. But in order to get to that stage, we have to make sure that everything we do works precisely. We must perform in every way that’s required and everything must happen when it’s intended. Being late with a carpet – even if it’s by a single day – is not acceptable and that kind of approach is what sets us apart from other suppliers.”
Thanks to its rich heritage, Brintons has the technical expertise to ensure the safe delivery of projects that are both large and small. Whether it be a modest quantity of carpet for a hotel ballroom or the likes of the 175,000 sq m of Axminster carpet that is being installed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport’s brand-new Terminal 3 building in India, Brintons draws on the same planning, design, manufacturing and project management expertise to ensure every brief is fulfilled on time and within budget, Fellows says.

Jumeirah Beach Hotel Dubai ... strong design. |
One of the many key areas in which Brintons excels is design. The company has a team of 80 handpicked designers around the world to deliver some of the most visually impressive designs in the market today. To stay at the forefront of this discipline, Brintons continually releases design collections that offer valuable inspiration to interior specialists and architects. The company’s most recent collection is Perceptions, which explores the possibilities of scale and colour where the delicate use of textures stimulates the look and feel underfoot. The collection is divided into eight concepts to ensure a strong design solution for most interior projects.
Equally as important to design at Brintons is carpet performance and strength of construction. “The exclusive 80/20 mix of natural wool and nylon that the company pioneered some years ago ensures that its carpet always looks as stylish and as vibrant in years five and six as it did on day one,” he says. “Add into the mix the fact that Brintons carpet also hides dirt, is naturally self-cleaning and is easy to clean, it’s obvious why leading hotels, casinos and airports around the world choose Brintons to fulfill their strict requirements for product longevity and appearance.”
The company’s ability to execute any client brief has made it the flooring partner of choice for many of the biggest names on the world business stage. For instance, the company has a global supply agreement with Hilton hotels and recently supplied close to 10,000 sq m of its Axminster to the Hilton International in Abu Dhabi.
Brintons was commissioned by Abu Dhabi National Hotels to design and manufacture inspirational carpet for the luxury five-star hotel and this has now been installed in the guestrooms, corridors, ballroom and vestibule at the bustling hotel.
It also works extensively in Dubai and recently delivered more than 20,000 sq m of its carpet to the luxurious Jumeirah Beach Hotel as well as the JW Marriott.
