Domotex rolls out greener concepts

Schaschen ... green focus.

A WIDE range of ‘green’ carpets and floor coverings are expected to be showcased at Domotex Middle East, the dedicated international trade fair for carpets and floor coverings in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.
This is in response to new government legislation on environmental protection, which is helping boost demand for eco-friendly solutions, says Deutsche Messe Dubai Branch, the organiser of the event .

It said the green building regulations issued in Dubai in 2007, and Abu Dhabi’s integrated design programme for urban development termed Estidama – which means ‘sustainability’ in Arabic – will have a huge impact on the future trends of the flooring industry.
The organiser also believes that the Leed rating system for commercial interiors, developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), will help provide a blueprint for quality standards to be maintained in interior products and pave the way for a significant increase in demand for green-certified flooring solutions.
“For the upcoming edition of Domotex Middle East, we are seeing several exhibitors building up new product lines to cater to emerging requirements and to comply with new government regulations, particularly those related to sustainability and environmental compliance,” Angela Schaschen, managing director of Deutsche Messe Dubai Branch, comments.
“The availability of new materials and advanced technology has greatly contributed in encouraging suppliers to expand their portfolio and offer eco-friendly, recyclable carpets and floor coverings. It is now no longer just about colours and designs as manufacturers, distributors and trade buyers are beginning to appreciate other important qualities of carpets and floor coverings such as the environmental footprint of these products,” she adds.
Domotex Middle East will be held next month (May 10 to 12) at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, where it will showcase a complete range of carpets and floor coverings including hand-made and machine-made carpets; textile and resilient floor coverings; parquet and other wood floors; laminates; floors for sports arenas and sports facilities; fibres, yarns and textiles; application and floor-laying techniques and equipment; machinery and technology, ceramic tiles, natural stone floors and marble floors.
“Domotex continues to serve as a benchmark for the latest product trends and the most up-to-date developments in quality standards in the carpets and floor coverings industry,” Schaschen says.
In line with this, Domotex will serve as a platform for innovations from leading carpet specialists. Abu Dhabi National Carpet Factory, the first carpet factory in Abu Dhabi, will take part in the expo as a leading supplier of both commercial and residential carpets. It produces all types of tufted carpets, printed carpets and axminster carpets using polypropylene, polyester, nylon, British wool 80 per cent nylon 20 per cent, twisted and frieze in its production line.

Balta Broadloom, Europe’s leading manufacturer of broadloom carpet, will display a wide range of innovations in both woven and tufted wall-to-wall carpet for residential and contract use.
