Mabani Steel of the UAE has awarded a contract to build a new factory for the company in Saudi Arabia, as part of its drive to become the region’s pre-eminent manufacturer of pre-engineered steel buildings (PEBs).
Core Construction, a Dubai-based contractor with branches in Saudi Arabia, will build the factory which is scheduled to launch commercial production in October next year, by which time production at Mabani’s factory in the UAE would have reached 80 per cent of designed capacity.
Based in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, Mabani Steel designs, fabricates and erects pre-engineered steel buildings and hot-rolled steel structures (HRSS). The UAE factory has a monthly capacity of 6,000 tonnes of PEB and 2,000 tonnes of HRSS. Current production levels are at 50 per cent of capacity enabling Mabani Steel to deliver buildings and structures in as little as six weeks.
The Saudi factory will double overall monthly production capacity from 8,000 tonnes to 16,000 tonnes enabling Mabani Steel to offer the fastest delivery in the PEB industry in the Middle East, says Muayyad Khudairi, president of Mabani Steel.
“Our goal is to maintain a start-up delivery schedule of eight weeks for all jobs produced in our UAE and Saudi factories because eight weeks is the required start-up delivery of almost all our customers. To achieve this, we plan to always have spare capacity, by not scheduling our factories beyond 80 per cent of their designed capacities,” he says.
Mabani Steel is one of the fastest growing PEBs companies in the region. Established in April 2006, the company began commercial production in April last year and since then, has shipped over 50,000 tonnes of PEBs and HRSS to destinations ranging from every country in the GCC to Jordan, Iraq, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Libya, Ghana, the Ivory Coast, Djibouti and Ethiopia.
The company maintains an erection department of over 250 persons and offers erection as an option to almost all projects in the UAE. This enables customers to contract Mabani Steel directly for all their steel building and steel structure needs. It also enables general contractors to subcontract the supply and erection of steel buildings/steel structures in their projects to one source while focusing on their core competencies, be it civil-structural or electrical-mechanical.
Adds Khudairi: “Our systems and procedures are totally customer-orientated. Anyone dealing with us for the first time will quickly notice our uniqueness manifested in our thorough review of project documents, our total compliance with customer requirements and our attention to every detail.”
Mabani Steel has four sales offices in the UAE (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah), three in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh, Al Khobar and Jeddah), in addition to offices in Doha (Qatar), Muscat (Oman), Manama (Bahrain), Karachi (Pakistan) and Accra (Ghana), with more sales offices planned during 2009.
Every sales office is staffed by at least one pre-contract estimating engineer, one post-contract customer service engineer and one erection specialist, in addition to a manager and other support staff. The intent is to offer a high quality of service to customers, from receipt of inquiry to completion of steel erection.
The company has the most experienced and the most trusted executive management in the PEB industry. For instance, Mabani Steel’s president and vice president have held senior management and leadership positions in the three largest PEB companies in this region since 1976.
