Summertown Interiors, which is counted among the UAE’s leading fit-out contractors that is reputed for its green expertise, has recently completed work on a state-of-the-art healthcare centre in Dubai, having previously successfully delivered a similar facility for the client Priory Group.
Aspris Wellbeing Centre Dubai, established by the distinguished independent provider of mental healthcare from the UK, is located in City Walk, and was completed in May.
“The fit-out brief for the wellbeing centre was to create a friendly, welcoming, modern environment for patients starting their journey to recovery,” says a spokesman for Summertown Interiors, which specialises in commercial, healthcare, and education projects for global Fortune 500 companies, government authorities and local businesses.
“Having successfully delivered the fit-out for the Priory Aspris Wellbeing Centre in Abu Dhabi, we were very familiar with the ambience required, and again worked in close collaboration with PMKConsult, the project manager, to create this healthcare space that was initially divided into two shell-and-core units,” he says.
The 510-sq-m health centre was designed by SWAP architects.
The overall ambience of calm and tranquility was achieved by the colour palette and materials, with the consistent use of light colour tones, soft fabric textures and warm wood, he explains. The identity of the space has been established throughout the centre by controlled lighting that complements the wood and wallpaper textures, with the aim of providing an optimal environment for medical and mental health treatment, the spokesman says.
Upon entry, patients are welcomed with a custom-made branded feature wall in the reception, and feature shelving that provides privacy between two proximate areas. The tailored specialist treatment rooms provide comfortable spaces for private consultations, and individual therapy and treatment.
In addition, there is a playful children’s waiting area, and consultation rooms purpose-designed to cater for the treatment of children.
Meanwhile, in December last year, Summertown Interiors – which specialises in the fit-out and design-and-build of commercial, healthcare and education interior projects - handed over a stately banking centre project in Dubai to the client Emirates Development Bank (EDB). The UAE government-owned bank was established to support the UAE’s economic diversification agenda, with specific focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“In line with EDB’s commitment to business banking, its brief for the new business banking centre on Sheikh Zayed Road was to create a welcoming environment for clients that was also a smart workplace,” says the spokesman.
The 930-sq-m project, located at One Central at Dubai World Trade Centre, was carried out on a design-and-build basis by Summertown Interiors and was delivered in close collaboration with leading Dubai-based design studio, Roar.
“Roar’s design integrated EDB’s iconic sail logo, inspired by the ‘sail’ of traditional dhows, their vibrant blue brand colour, and a material palette of terrazzo, metal, acoustic felts, glass and marble,” he says.
The new business banking centre incorporates both client and employee zones. The modern reception area is flanked by a café-style pantry. Further functional spaces include smart meeting rooms with the latest audio-video (AV) and conferencing technology, open workstations, and a boardroom.
Established more than 25 years ago, Summertown Interiors was the first fit-out contractor to occupy LEED Gold certified interiors in the UAE. It has also been awarded the LEED gold certification for its existing building; operations and maintenance (LEED EBOM).
