European aluminium solutions provider Reynaers has announced that its MasterPatio sliding door system has emerged as a winner in the Red Dot Design Awards 2021 in the Interior Design Elements category.
Red Dot Design Awards is an international design competition for product design, communication design and design concepts. While there is no physical awards ceremony this year, the winners will be displayed in the Red Dot Yearbook 2021, on the digital exhibition that opened late last month, and on a physical exhibition in Essen, Germany.
MasterPatio secured this accolade from the jury for outstanding performance and innovative design, says Reynaers.
According to the jury report: “The design of the MasterPatio sliding door system succeeds in combining state-of-the-art sustainability requirements with excellent insulation performance and a clear design idiom.”
MasterPatio is a sliding door system made from aluminium, which is claimed to combine numerous design and configuration options with excellent performance indicators for thermal insulation, acoustics, air-tightness and water-tightness.
“This innovative solution reflects the current trend in architecture to maximise daylight and can be used for highly insulated, low-energy and passive house designs. Efficient assembly-ready components, recycled polyamide insulating bars between the extruded sections and the optimised production process are some of its key features,” says Ali Khalaf, Managing Director of Reynaers Middle East, the regional office of the leading Belgium-based aluminium solutions provider.
MasterPatio, described as the next level sliding system, provides a floor-to-ceiling facade system, with clean lines and maximum comfort and is said to the perfect companion for Reynaers’ distinctive MasterLine series. It boasts higher tolerances and improved performance, according to Reynaers.
“MasterPatio was developed to combine comfort on every level, clean aesthetics down to the details, sustainability efforts, and an unlimited design freedom,” he adds.
MasterPatio offers Passive House level thermal performance, and best-in-class water performance, which have been combined with beautiful lines and details, Khalaf states. Most components and accessories are concealed or flush integrated in the profiles, and dimensions and lines are kept clean and consistent across the visible profiles.
“This system is a big step forward in Reynaers’ efforts to make systems more sustainable, with the introduction of recycled insulation bars, reduced waste during production, and will keep its sharp look for decades with minimal maintenance. The built-in compatibility with our MasterLine 8 transforms MasterPatio from a sliding system to a complete floor-to-ceiling facade system, allowing you to build your home or high-rise apartment exactly as you want it to be,” he remarks.
MasterPatio can accommodate glazing systems measuring up to 3,600 by 3,000 mm, and has been height tested to support panes measuring up to 3.6 m. The profile system thus can accommodate moving glass panes weighing up to 400 kg and fixed panes up to 1,200 kg.
The system offers thermal insulation (Uf) values of 1.3 W/sq m K, water tightness of E1200 (1,200 Pa), wind load resistance of C5 (2,000 Pa), and its airtightness has been tested to meet level 4 (600 Pa). It provides an acoustic performance value of Rw= 44 dB.
“MasterPatio offers unparalleled design freedom, featuring a symmetrical vent design and ensuring minimal sliding resistance. The system ensures maximal transparency with reduced sightlines, thanks to its slim 50-mm Chicane. The glass-to-profile ratio is up to 90 per cent,” Khalaf points out.
MasterPatio is high-rise ready and comes with pre-drilled drainage in the profile. It is offered in a choice of three variants inside glazed (with the sash on the outside track), outside glazed (with the sash on the inside track) or two-rail.
The inside and outside glazed monorails variants offer a frameless fixed part, for maximum transparency. They also feature a zero-threshold solution. In the inside glaze variant, the inside and outside floor level can be flush with the top of the threshold profile, providing effortless entry and exit, while in the outside glazed variant the inside and outside floor level only have a couple of cm between them, connected with a slightly inclined profile to optimise rain evacuation.
The two-rail variant of the MasterPatio features a symmetrical aesthetic: fixed and sliding panels have the same aluminium profiles, so visible lines aren’t interrupted.
