Trelawny SPT tools have been used on The Palm projects.

Thanks to a strong distributorship network in the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar, the UK-based Trelawny SPT has seen its pneumatic tools and surface preparation equipment used on high-profile projects such as the Burj Dubai and the Palm islands.

The global supplier and manufacturer of pneumatic tools and surface preparation equipment is now eyeing the burgeoning markets of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, where it is actively seeking experienced distributors with active sales teams and after-sales service back-up, to increase its presence in the Middle East.
Established over 50 years ago as the Fulton Group, a premier manufacturer of marine equipment designed to de-scale decks and clean boilers tubes, the company gradually evolved into Trelawny SPT over time. Since 2004, a new and energetic management team has been leading the company, with a detailed strategic plan to sustain long-term growth in the Middle East and beyond.
Trelawny offers a comprehensive range of pneumatic and electric surface preparation equipment that includes scabblers, planers and grinders for floors of buildings. The company has a dedicated range of tools that are specifically designed for the preparation of concrete and steel surfaces and the removal of substances such as laitance, paint, rust, bitumen and a variety of waterproof sealants.
Trelawny has advanced the science of reducing hand vibration and are marketing a range of tools under its trademark Vibro-Lo. The company focuses on user protection to reduce vibration levels across its range of products and to ensure its tools comply with the rigorous demands of low vibration levels, Trelawny operates an in-house testing procedure, under the supervision of its technical manager, Jeff Flather. "We have a firm policy to test all our tools in accordance with BS EN ISO8662 parts 1 and 14:1993 and 1997, or where the standard is not applicable, we test to BS EN ISO 5349-2:2000. All our quoted values are averaged tri-axial values,” confirms Flather.
Trelawny’s range of tools include single, triple, multi-head and pole scabblers, floor planer and grinders
“Our single and triple-head scabbling hammers are ideal tools for demanding applications in surface preparation and coatings removal. These heavy-duty scabblers, with low-maintenance, one-piece pistons, have proven to be ideally suited for concrete dressing. They all benefit from a single-piece tungsten carbide-tipped head and piston combined together for the preparation of hard concrete surfaces,” says Bill Bailey, sales director of Trelawny SPT.
The company offers a range of long-reach scabblers and pole tampers, available with interchangeable scabbling heads and tamper feet, to suit many applications. These tools are regarded by many, as the most powerful for deep concrete dressing and for backfill tamping, especially in and around deep foundations and utility poles, he says.
“The company has also developed a low-vibration pole scabbler, the Trelawny LRS55, which has set the standard for low-vibration deep concrete dressing, affording the operator added comfort but without any loss of power. The advanced, low-vibration (4.96 m/second square), MHS11 multi-head floor scabbler is designed for removing concrete laitance while guarding against any damage to the substrate. Optional cruciform heads are available for increased material reduction and a smoother finish. The MHS11 features 11 tungsten carbide tipped bush hammerheads delivering up to 2,200 blows per minute, per piston and is fitted with the unique Trelawny cutter head action and three-point vibration damping system. It needs only 1982 l/m (70cfm) of air and together with its compact design and large rear wheels ensure easy portability,” he says.
The MHS11 is also available with an optional vacuum shroud for dust free working.
Turning to the company’s floor planers and grinders, Bailey says: “The Trelawny TFP 200 floor planer is ideal for a key or grooved profile on concrete as is also designed for the removal of scale, rust, paint and other deposits from steel surfaces in readiness for re-coating cleaned steel surfaces and will cut up to 3 mm when reducing concrete.”
"We also offer the Trelawny TFP 250, a robust heavy-duty floor-scarifying machine, designed for more substantial applications such as concrete reduction, concrete grooving, laitance removal or keying in preparation for resurfacing. The TFP 250 motor has been cleverly positioned to place the weight directly above the cutter drum for a firm ground holding cut and will cut up to 6 mm when reducing concrete,” adds Bailey.
The Trelawny TCG 500, a strong concrete grinder with dual counter rotating discs designed for removing trowel marks, plaster and laitance and mortar spillages is another offering from the company. It tackles the build-up of coatings and debris from the floor and is used for smoothing, levelling and texturing floors for non-skid applications and grinding terrazzo floor tiles.
Trelawny currently has a network of around 62 dealers and distributors spread all over the world. In addition to the Middle East, it also has distributors in Germany, Italy, France, US, South Africa, China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia, offering users of Trelawny equipment access to sales, service and spare parts just about anywhere they are working.
The company has a strong dealership network in its three key regional markets – the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar – and is open to reputable construction, marine and specialist engineering distributors wishing to expand their product portfolio across the Middle East. In Bahrain, Gulf Equipment and Technology – a relative newcomer to the Trelawny distributor network – has already built-up a substantial stockholding, ready to meet with the increasing demands from Bahrain construction industry. Its impressive new showroom will display a range of Trelawny products.
Its tie-up with its Qatari distributor meanwhile, dates back to over a decade. Gulf Incon, which was established in 1980, supplies equipment to a wide range of industries operating in Qatar, and has field-based personnel and a major service centre.  In the UAE, Sigma Enterprises, well-renowned construction equipment distributor, supplies Trelawny products from bases in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Sigma has a reputation for a first-class service to the construction industry throughout the region. The company, which previously traded as Mazrui Engineering Products, has been dealing with the Trelawny product range for over six years and has sustained significant growth during this period, primarily due to its active sales team, with Kevin Morris heading the construction sales team in Dubai.
Sigma’s combination of good stock levels – essential for a market such as Dubai – coupled with a highly motivated external sales force and a professional after-sales service department, are the essential ingredients for its success. Sigma is heavily involved with all major civil developments and a range of Trelawny products have been regularly supplied to projects such as Burj Dubai and Palm Island in the UAE.
Trelawny offers each of its dealers a dedicated team of assembly personnel and qualified engineers and together they expect to anticipate the future needs of customers by developing new technology and providing a rapid and reliable despatch service.
