The Atlas Copco QAS 250 ... providing power at the Dubai site.

An Atlas Copco QAS 250 generating set is being rented from Sharjah-based Emirates Technical Services, one of the region’s leading rental fleets, to provide temporary site power on the fast-track Al Kazim twin-tower project at Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road, as main contractor Al Shafer General Contracting Company waits for a ‘mains’ supply connection.

As no ‘mains’ electricity was available on the site when construction began on the 52-storey Al Kazim commercial and office building, Al Shafer rented the genset to provide a prime power rating of 250 kVA to power Liebherr luffing jib tower cranes until a ‘mains’ supply is connected.
“With a completion date of just 22 months for the project, we knew that we could not wait for a supply to be connected,” says project manager, Wadih El Chaer.
“The QAS 250 generator is now performing a key integral role in helping us meet our deadlines on this fast-track project with reliable production,” he adds.
Skid mounted, the genset is powered by a Volvo six-cylinder turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine to provide 220 kW at 1,500 rpm. It ensures an excellent operating economy with exemplary starting and continuous reliable operation even in ambient temperatures up to 40 deg C, says Sam Waes, divisional communications manager at the Portable Air Division of Atlas Copco. “The QAS 250 generator, supplied through local distributor Inma, also provides a stable power and quick response to any local fluctuations.”
When completed, the Al Kazim towers project will feature three basement levels, a ground floor and an eight-storey podium plus two 52-storey towers rising 44 floors above the podium to a height of 203 m.
