A Bahrain-based firm has recently introduced a ductile iron pipe system which is said to have proven its reliability in thousands of sewer applications over the past two decades.

A Bin Hindi has recently introduced US Pipes’ Protecto 401 ceramic epoxy-lined ductile iron pipe and fittings for force mains, gravity and industrial sewer lines.
Says projects director of the AA Bin Hindi group, Khalid A Bin Hindi: “Protecto 401 provides excellent protection and the strength necessary to do the job in tough sewer pipe applications. It has been successfully used in thousands of sanitary sewer applications and the reliability of the systems has been proven with both laboratory testing and two decades of actual sewer service on all sizes of ductile iron pipe and fittings.
“Protecto 401 ceramic epoxy lining was designed specifically for the protection of ductile iron for sanitary sewer service by providing a reliability similar to cement mortar lining in drinking water service but having the excellent chemical resistance of a Novalac epoxy for septic sewer service”.
Easily recognisable brownish red bells and spigots, as well as stenciling showing “for sewer only”, ensure that the correct lined pipe is used for sewer service.  This concentration of design and formulation effort has resulted in a ductile iron pipelining system with excellent durability, resistance to undercutting, and resistance to chemical attack, he says.
AA Bin Hindi says it is the exclusive dealer in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, for US Pipes and Foundry Company – a leader in the design and production of ductile iron pipes, fittings, valves, hydrants and related products.
Recently, the projects division of Bin Hindi has, in response to a request from the Ministry of Electricity and Water, supplied – TR Flex – a restrained joint piping system to be supplied as an integral part of Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Causeway project. US Pipes’ TR Flex is a boltless, restraining joint system that fully conforms to the international ISO-2531 standards, with joints suitable for 17 bar working pressure for 1,200 mm ductile iron pipe.
TR-Flex is ideally suited for use in pipe applications where unbalanced thrust forces or electrical conductivity could be experienced and, where cost effective installation is equally important, he says.
In addition AA Bin Hindi has supplied TR Flex pipes and fittings for the following projects:
• Shaikh Hamad causeway rehabilitation;
• Water transmission project associated with Alba coke calcining and desalination plant ductile iron pipes and fittings contract; and
• Diversion of 1,000 mm diameter water transmission pipeline from Ras Abu Jarjur reverse osmosis plant to West Riffa’a blending station
The US Pipes and Foundry Company, a subsidiary of Water Group, has revolutionised the industry and patents by US Pipe are licensed throughout the world. Originally incorporated in 1899 as United States Cast Iron Pipe and Foundry Company, the incorporation consolidated 12 companies located in eight states.
Apart from dealing in US Pipes’ products, AA Bin Hindi also deals in commercial, industrial, and consumer products, sponsoring and joint venture with international companies to undertake sophisticated projects locally.
The division is also a supplier for earthmoving equipment from O&K; construction equipment from John Deere; telehandlers and rough forklifts from Manitou; skid-steer loaders from Thomas Equipment company; forklifts from TCM; hydraulic rough terrain and truck cranes from Kato; dewatering pumps from Varisco; portable air compressors from Sullivan Palakek; diamond tools and machines from Diamant Boart, Dimas and Partner; concrete mixers, dumpers bar cutting/bending machines from Silla; TCT cutting blades from Kinkelder; shoring, pile sheets and dewatering equipment from Imeco; power generators from Marapco, material and passenger hoists from Gruppo Electroelse; Electrical submersible pumps from Grindex; and light construction equipment from Toku.
