
Zamil charms firms at Batimat
Riyadh: Zamil Steel’s Pre-Engineered Buildings (PEB) Business Unit received strong interest for its solutions at the recent Batimat, Europe’s largest international building exhibition.
It surpassed expectations with more than 200 businesses showing serious interest in the PEB solutions of the firm, said the company which participated in the Paris show from November 3 to 8, for the first time.
“The interest in our pre-engineered building solutions has been so strong that we are seriously considering expanding our exhibition presence in Europe, in particular to international construction events in Germany, Italy and the UK. We also look forward to having a much larger presence at the next Batimat event, which will take place in 2005,” a spokesman for Zamil said.
Zamil Steel has been actively promoting its buildings in Europe for the past five years and is committed to expanding its presence in new European markets as it prepares to open two new offices in Moscow (Russia) and Bucharest (Romania) before the end of the year, he said.
100 houses for poor in Baha
Baha: Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has signed an agreement in Baha with a Saudi contractor to build 100 homes in the region. The Baha homes represent the fifth phase of the developmental housing projects that Prince Alwaleed has put into effect in response to the call of Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince Deputy Premier and head of the National Guard.
Prince Alwaleed, who is committed to building 10,000 homes over a 10-year period at the rate of 1,000 units per year, visited Baha recently to lay the cornerstone for 100 homes intended as a donation to the poor in the region.
The 100 units that will come up in two villages, Bani Kebir in Beljureshy region, and Yabs in Tehamah region, will include: two bedrooms, two living rooms, equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, two entrances, water reservoir and pumps.
The project is a complete development built on a property with all the essential infrastructure. Each unit will be constructed on a lot measuring 600 to 800 sq m.
The 100 units in Baha bring the total number of homes currently under construction to 800 out of the 1,000 allocated for 2003.
Sabic to construct plant at Yanbu
Yanbu: Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic), has announced the construction of a 1.3 million-tonne complex to be located at the Yanbu industrial site on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast that is expected to go on-stream in 2007. In addition, other new plants will be constructed with capacities of 800,000 tonnes per year (tpy) of polyethylene; 700,000 tpy of ethylene glycol; and 350,000 tpy of polypropylene.
