Developer to showcase projects
Dammam:
Saudi real estate developer Aqar Holdings plans to showcase its premier projects at Cityscape 2003, the Middle East's international commercial architecture, property investment and development event, to be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai  UAE, next month.

Among the schemes to be highlighted will be the Alharam Residential and Commercial Centre and the Old Madinah project in Madinah, the Alshurfah Commercial and Residential Centre in Makkah and the Sea Front Resort in Al Khobar.
'We see Cityscape as the right international forum to network with real estate developers throughout the Gulf, to strengthen and create new partnerships and to increase awareness of Aqar Holdings' capabilities and principles,' said Khalid Al Jarallah, general manager PR and communications.

Conren makes inroads into market
Riyadh:
Conren International, manufacturers of Rooftex liquid applied waterproofing system, states that the appointment of Andal Group as its representatives and agent for Saudi Arabia has yielded positive results.
Since Andal's appointment, Rooftex has been specified and applied at many prestigious projects throughout the kingdom, most notably at the Ministry of Defence headquarters. Conren has also provided roofing solutions to the Khami Mushaid National Hospital, Tufail Housing Complex, schools, clinics and private residences.

Jabal Omar road to be built
Riyadh:
Work on one of the Jabal Omar projects, the Western Gate Road has been approved . The road will be 150-m wide including service roads on both sides and will pass through Al-Dahlat Al-Rushd, Al-Mawarika, Al-Tundbawi, Al-Ghurabah, Al-Rusaifah and Haiy Al-Zahreen. 
The total length of the road will be 5 km. The work has been assigned to Abdul Lateef Jamil Real Estate Development Company. The Jabal Omar projects consist of the following:

  • An underground tunnel passing through Jabal Omar, connecting the Western Gate Road;
  • Two five-star hotels of 935 rooms, three four-star hotels having 1,210 rooms, and six three-star hotels consisting of 1,255 rooms;
  • Construction of 20-storey residential buildings to accommodate 100,000 people, and
  • Car-parking facility for over 10,000 vehicles.
    It will also include 520 restaurants, well-laid out roads, open areas, gardens, fire and police stations, schools, medical centres and public toilets for men and women.

    Lurgi to build chemical plant
    Riyadh:
    Saudi Arabia's Alujain Corporation has awarded Germany's Lurgi Oel Gas Chemie, a unit of MG Technologies AG, a contract to build a chemical plant.
    Lurgi will build the 420,000-tonne-per-year propane dehydrogenation plant to produce polymer-grade propylene in the Red Sea port of Yanbu.
    A new firm called The National Propylene Company (Alfasel), will be set up to run the plant, which is expected to come on stream in the third quarter of 2006.
    An earlier estimate by Alujain put the cost of the project at around $276 million.

    IPP project gets go-ahead
    Jubail:
    Siemens of Germany has received the go-ahead on the SR562.5 million ($150 million) engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract on the Kingdom's first independent power plant (IPP), to be built at the Saudi Petrochemical Company (Sadaf) complex at Jubail.
    Siemens is the nominated EPC contractor to Jubail Energy Company (JEC), the project company implementing the $170 million project.
    Siemens will build a 250-MW cogeneration plant fired by two W501D5A turbines which will also produce 910 tonnes of steam.
    The 24-month project is due to be completed in the second quarter of 2005.

    Zamil Steel wins Oman order
    Dammam:
    Zamil Steel Industries (ZSI) has been awarded a SR22 million ($5.98 million) contract to design, fabricate, test and supply 7,500 tonnes of power transmission steel towers to Oman's Civil Contracting and Construction Company. The end user of the unique solution is the UAE Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa).
    Included in the undertaking is the supply of specially designed steel towers for 23 km of a 220/132 kV multi-circuit transmission line; 37 km of a 220 kV double circuit transmission line; and 20 km of a 132 kV double circuit transmission line in 12 months.

    Plan to build airport at Dhuba
    Riyadh:
    Plans are afoot to build an airport in the northwestern coastal city of Dhuba, according to reports.
    The Presidency of Civil Aviation (PCA) is considering setting up the new regional airport in Dhuba following the growing role of its seaport as a hub for Gulf passengers travelling to Egypt and other African countries, according to a report in the Arab News newspaper. The report said the PCA, in co-operation with Saudi Arabian Airlines, was studying the project.
