Saudi-based Zamil Air Conditioners (Zac) has been awarded a contract to supply its Cooline air conditioning solutions for the Almoayyed Tower, the tallest building in Bahrain.
The solution includes the supply of chilled water fan coil units and chilled water air handling units. The units, of a capacity of 2,100 tonnes, will create an ambient controlled climate in the 47-storey structure throughout the year.
ZAC has assured the efficiency of the cooling system by splitting the HVAC system into vertical halves and by utilising a primary, secondary and tertiary pump system with plate type heat exchangers.
''A special ducting system has also been installed in the tower, which, for the first time in Bahrain, comprises pre-insulated polyisocyanurate rather than conventional galvanised iron ducting,'' says Naweid Sidiqqui, Cooline country manager, Bahrain. ''Unique technical features of this landmark project include the use of the high efficiency recovery wheels of the heat recovery units to pre-cool incoming fresh air. The solution also incorporates heat pipes in the air handling units to recover dissipated energy and de-humidify incoming air.'
'To ensure stringent standards were met, the solution was put through exhaustive tests at ZAC's Dammam-based $10 million state-of-the-art Air Conditioning Technology Centre (ATC),'' says Cooline general manager Shaker Almoussa. ''This facility is unique in the Middle East as it enables the guarantee of local and international certifications, and also supports research and development activities.''
Cooline has bagged several international and GCC contracts in the air-conditioning sector and recently the company has been commissioned to provide split and ducted split air conditioning solutions for the landmark City Commercial Centre in Oman.
The company has also provided air conditioning solutions for the Dean Trade Center, the largest shopping mall in Pakistan, and the Pakistan Tobacco Company. The company has been awarded the contract to equip one of the tallest towers in Sharjah, the Al Ghafy Towers, with DX ducted systems. Also in its kitty, is the contract to provide air conditioning solutions for the new headquarters of Ahli United Bank in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
ZAC, founded in 1974 as one of the first air-conditioning businesses to be established in Saudi Arabia, has grown to become a leading manufacturer of air conditioning systems having a range of products that includes Classic, Cooline, Cool Care, Clima Tech, Kessler Tech and Geoclima brands.
It is also involved in the production of branded air-conditioners for leading international manufacturers Sanyo, Trane, Luxaire, Philco, Admiral, Siemens Bosch and Frigidaire, under an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement.
It operates a joint venture with General Electric, called Middle East Air Conditioners (MEAC) and a range of GE branded air conditioning consumer products are produced for Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries.
