AL Masaood Bergum (AMB), a part of the Abu-Dhabi based Mohammed Bin Masaood Group, has notched up a name as a leading manufacturer of prefabricated buildings in the GCC.
What is not so well known is its capability in the field of steel fabrication.
Set up in 1978, AMB has offices in the UAE in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and Doha, Qatar, and undertakes projects throughout the Gulf Arab region and beyond. The business started making prefabricated buildings and diversified, using the core skills and equipment required for prefab manufacture, into traditional construction, villa construction, interior design and construction, steel frame buildings and steel fabrication.
Over the past 25 years, AMB has developed a steel frame panelling system for the construction of buildings up to three storeys (G+3) that can be adapted to provide customised designs with a variety of finishes.
These buildings are suited for situations where speed of construction is vital and a more permanent solution than prefabricated timber is called for.
The company has projects executed projects such as the Emirates Operations Centre, (completed in 90 days), a 262-room hotel facility in Baku, Azerbaijan (completed in 120 days), a 1,500 sq m office building for Zayed University Abu Dhabi, including all services (completed in 75 days) and 7,500 sq m of temporary facilities at the Conference Palace Hotel Abu Dhabi (completed in 90 days).
AMB has a large steel fabrication facility at Dubai's Al Quoz Industrial Area. Here, the company fabricates all the steels skids required for prefab units and also carries out a wide variety of steel fabrication projects for external clients. These projects include steel frame buildings, mezzanine floors, staircases, decorative steelwork for villa developments, car shade structures, equipment skids and walkways.
AMB has two steel design engineers who use the latest STAAD steel design software, a large number of trained and certified welders and fabricators and has a wide range of cutting, bending, lathing, welding and painting equipment.
It is now in involved in building a new 40,000 sq m production facility at the Jebel Ali industrial area. When complete in early 2004, the facility will have upgraded and enhanced steel fabrication facilities including a shot blasting machine and high-tech paint booth complying with the latest environmental regulations.
Whatever the type of construction, AMB places an emphasis on providing an economical solution to the client's requirements built in the minimum time and to exacting quality standards.
The quality of the product is checked at various stages during fabrication and installation and the company as a whole operates a quality system that is certified by BVQI to ISO 9001:2000.
AMB also plans to introduce an integrated management system incorporating environmental (ISO 14000) and health and safety (ISO 18000) procedures when it moves to a 350,000 sq ft fabrication facility in Jebel Ali next year.
