Hilti International highlights the role its firestop products play in securing the safety of both people and property.
Hilti International, which has recently launched three new firestop products on the market, says that innovation and education are key tools in its task of having lives and property.
"The quality and excellence of Hilti's firestop products ensure that fire, smoke and toxic gases are contained to prevent the tragic loss of human life and property," says Zaid Ali, product manager at Hilti's regional office in Dubai, UAE. "Through a combination of superior products, advanced knowledge and unparalleled customer service, we are able to provide the highest quality firestop systems in the world."
He continues: "Hilti is always on hand to offer job site support and expertise. Its highly-trained sales force, fire protection specialist, and in-house fire protection engineering team can help clients select the right products and systems to match specific project needs. It also has a support package that is unmatched in the passive firestop industry."
Fire safety, says Ali, is a major concern for all who are responsible for the design and specification of new buildings. "The causes of fire are varied and unpredictable, and often outside the control of the designer," he says. "What can be controlled, however, is the effect of fire once it has started."
"The control of fire, within a building, is normally affected by a combination of active and passive fire protection systems. Passive fire protection is designed into the structure of the building, so that if fire breaks out, it is contained within a fire compartment, surrounded by fire-resistive walls and floors. For the walls and floors to maintain their fire-resistance, however, every opening and penetration must be sealed against the escape of fire and smoke.
"Hilti firestop products and systems, if properly installed, can help prevent fire escaping from a compartment for a period of up to four hours. This time period can prove vital in allowing occupants to escape, and fire-fighters to control the fire."
Hilti says it offers a full line of products, tested to UL 1479, UL 2079, ASTM-E 814, FM, BS 476 part 20, DIN 4102, IEC 332 Part 3, and other various standards, meeting all customers' firestopping needs. The firestop products suit various types of applications such as for joints, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning), electrical, mechanical, and many others.

Elaborating on the new products, he says: "The new Hilti CP620 expanding fire seal is a comprehensive firestopping solution that has been demanded by firestop specialists and users for years. It is a universal solution for all common construction materials, easy to use and safe in function.
"The fast expansion of the Fire Seal - high yield through seven-fold expansion - creates reliable closing of the opening, sealing both visible and invisible gaps. The uniqueness of CP620 cartridge allows working intermissions without causing any effect to the material.
"The one-step and the fast curing of the Fire Seal provide very fast and simple installation without any wastage. The cured Fire Seal is cuttable, reusable and repenetrable. Hilti's latest innovation is not just for sealing gaps, but is a solution for all kinds of service penetrations.
"Another of Hilti's latest innovations is the fire-resistive joint system for curtain wall/parameter joints, using Hilti's CP672 firestop spray.
"The CP672 is a flexible firestop spray for joints where movement up to 50 per cent is expected. It can be applied to top-of-wall joints, curtain wall/perimeter joints, or expansion joints. CP672 is tested and approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL). The system's main advantages include maximum flexibility exceeding the 500 cycle requirements set by ASTM 1399 and UL 2079, quick and easy installation with several texture spray guns saving customers both time and money, and water-based formulation making spills and over-spray clean-up quick and easy.
"Finally, Hilti's CP680 cast-in firestop device is the new standard in firestopping pipes through concrete slabs, with or without metal decking. The simplification of this product ensures quick and correct installation and therefore requiring no further inspections. Having a cast-in-place device such as this would bring security to the specification and inspection community alike eliminating all the guess work in firestopping and inspecting.
"The innovative design of CP680 meets the most stringent requirements in construction, ensuring at the same time sound reduction as well as water and smoke seal. It has been designed to simplify installation and all further maintenance in buildings. Pipe removal is possible during the life of the building, and can be changed from metal to plastic pipes without any further firestopping. The CP680 reduces the risks associated with incorrect installation when firestopping pipes through concrete over metal decking and makes specification easy and the installation faster. Large projects increasingly incorporate innovation in design and construction methods, and the CP680 is the perfect and reliable partner, bringing innovation to firestopping a variety of floor penetrations.'
"Throughout the past years Hilti has continuously conducted seminars and trainings to customers on the importance of firestopping as well as various awareness campaigns throughout the Gulf region promoting 'life safety',' Ali says. 'Hilti's primary goal has always and will continue to be dedicated to saving lives and property through innovation and education.'
