The Balmoral Group has received approval from the UK-based Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) for its hot press moulded GRP sectional water tank system.

Although the company has held LPCB approval for its QA system for almost two years, the storage system approval marks a significant step forward for Balmoral.

The award covers the sectional tank system's panels, components and installation.

Balmoral can now market its tanks, which are designed and manufactured in Aberdeen, for fixed fire fighting sprinkler systems worldwide.

"We have invested heavily in engineering time and resources to achieve this certification," said Balmoral Tanks' managing director Allan Joyce.

"Although our standard product was suitable for fire fighting applications, the tanks had to be independently inspected and certified by a third party, Capcis, to satisfy the LPCB body.

"As far as I'm aware, Balmoral is one of only very few companies in Europe holding full accreditation and we look forward to discussing new applications with existing and potential clients alike."

LPCB requested Balmoral to identify tanks which had been in operation for at least three years. This allowed LPCB to form the basis of their accreditation.

With hundreds of tanks installed nationwide, and overseas, this was no obstacle to Balmoral, which plans to introduce the potential of this new application to the global market.
