Commenting on the new colour palettes, Frederick Trzcinski, Marketing and Innovation Director, Mena, Ideal Standard Gulf, says: “Colours have a way of invoking a sense of emotion and reflect the personality of the user. Use of colours are intrinsic to Ideal Standard’s legacy and with the introduction of colours like chrome, powder blue, pomegranate, brushed gold and magnetic grey, we want to give our customers the opportunity to explore and harness their sensibility of colours. Toro ... Spanish for ‘bull’.

Okha gets bullish with its new chair

South African furniture design and interiors company Okha has launched its Toro dining chair, which takes its name from the Spanish word meaning ‘bull’.

The carbon stained ash with its subtle satin finish and the dense, near black velvet that it is built with, recall the glossy black hide of the animal, with daylight reflecting off flanks and haunches.

The sculpted arms of the chair symbolise a bull’s horns; they are strong and assertive with intent as is the structure of the chair which possesses a very physical and rigorous construction. “I like to think that the chair has a powerful physical presence, like the bull it is loaded…charged with an assured power,” says Okha Creative Director, Adam Court.

Going into detail, Court explains that he is “A fan of Brazilian Modernism, of Jeanneret and Prouve and the A frame structure of the legs is a direct homage to this.”

“When designing the chair I liked aspects of both the A frame and straight leg versions, they are the same chair but not the same chair, it’s like the same word said but with a different intonation, it can mean and express many different things,” says Adam.

Ultra ... durable flooring.

Ultra ... durable flooring.

Ultra defines ‘the future of timber flooring’

International wood flooring brand Havwoods has unveiled Ultra, which it describes as a ground-breaking new addition to its collection of interior surfaces.

Ideal for designers, architects and homeowners looking to create incredibly durable and extraordinarily beautiful designs for a range of environments, Ultra paves the way for “the future of timber flooring”, the UK-based company says.

“Having been in development since 2007, Ultra is arguably one of the most sustainable, durable and majestic flooring options around,” says a spokesman for the company. “Three times harder than an average parquet floor, and highly scratch resistant to items like high heels or dropped objects, the product undergoes an innovative construction process involving seven coats of UV lacquer, real European Oak wood veneers and two unique Ultra powder layers.”

The new boards are presented in XL formats, meaning that the planks are wider and longer – providing more high quality wood for a more competitive price. In addition, Ultra is available in four beautiful shades – Transparent, Natural, Grey, White – both in prime and character grades, for a design to suit every style of interior.
