SPECIALIST geosynthetics solution provider Alyaf Industrial Company says its extensive line-up of quality geotextiles, backed by efficient support services over the past two decades, have made its name synonymous with ‘geotextiles’ in the Middle East.
Since 1992, Alyaf has been at the forefront in supplying geotextiles engineered to meet the demanding needs of the construction industry. And as a leader in its sphere of operations, the company has consistently been providing not just quality products but techno-commercially viable solutions, according to Khalid Meccai, sales and marketing manager (exports).
“This has been achieved through two approaches,” he says. “Through investment in research and development and technology for continuous improvement to ensure that customers get the best value for money; and through its qualified engineers working closely with contractors, consultants and clients providing site-specific design solutions.”
Alyaf has a long list of satisfied Alyaf customers spread across the world, from the Middle East to the remote corners of Australia and Africa. Regionally, a good example of where its products have helped provide a solution to problems is the biggest port here – the Khalifa Port at Abu Dhabi, UAE.
“The main contractor Archirodon Construction needed assurance that the geotextile could withstand rock drop heights of over 8 m. Based upon extensive experience and our expertise, Alyaf provided technical back-up and then supplied over 1.5 million sq m of geotextiles to the full satisfaction of the contractor, consultant and client,” Meccai explains.
Another case on hand is with Saudi Aramco. When the oil conglomerate started the Wasit gas initiative, the selected area was a weak sabkha patch. From the design stage, Alyaf engineers worked closely with the design consultant and then finally with the contractor during the construction phase to stabilise over 2 million sq m of the required area, he points out.
Alyaf is committed to supplying its customers with geotextiles engineered to their specific problems. As such, it has multiple ranges of geosynthetics including:
• Alyaf A1, a popular range of needle-punched non-woven polyester geotextiles;
• A1 XL, needle-punched non-woven polyester geotextiles that are available in widths of up to 6 m;
• Alyaf XP, needle-punched non-woven polypropylene geotextiles in widths up to 6 m;
• Alyaf XS, thermally-bonded and needle-punched non-woven polypropylene geotextiles in widths up to 6 m;
• Alyaf P, an engineered protection range of geotextiles for membrane protection applications;
• Alyaf TS, a polyester thermally-set range, engineered for use in cold-applied liquid waterproofing systems;
• Alyaf PU, a popular range of Alyaf paving fabrics in two grades of PU14 and PU20;
• Alfweb, an innovative three-dimensional cellular confinement system engineered to provide erosion protection on slopes; and
• Geogrids, a range of Bi Ax geogrids, with square apertures, and an optimised geometry of nodes and ribs that maximises interlock with soil for soil stabilisation.
The company supports its extensive product range with efficient customer service, according to Meccai. “Our professional design support is matched equally by a service-minded sales team. Any query received by our office is responded to within 24 hours. Shipments – whether big or small – are scheduled as per customer needs. To ensure this, Alyaf carries stocks of the popular geotextile grades and our manufacturing facilities work round the clock responding to our customers’ special needs,” he says.
