AHMED Mansoor Al Aali (AMA) Group, one of the largest construction and trading groups in Bahrain, intends to create a major impact at gulfBID where it has booked a total of 240 sq m of indoor and outdoor space to showcase its new image.
The group has completed a comprehensive business restructuring exercise, following which it is now set to officially relaunch its heavy trucks and construction equipment division as AMA Motors at the show.
The indoor space will basically serve as an information centre for the group’s activities and will have on hand representatives of the various businesses that fall under its umbrella. Within the outdoor space, AMA Motors will display a wide range of the brands it represents including MAN trucks and buses and New Holland machinery and equipment.
The AMA Group’s recent business restructuring exercise is expected to pay rich dividends as the group is again trading profitably and is looking forward with confidence, according to group CEO Othmar Wutscher, who heads an international management team which has helped restored the group’s fortunes since 2008.
“It is no secret that up to 2008 the group was overleveraged and suffering from financial difficulties. However, today I am pleased to report that AMA is regaining its rightful place as one of Bahrain’s leading business conglomerates, with an annual turnover well in excess of BD100 million ($265 million),” he says.
“We are now back stronger than ever, on a sound financial footing and are ready and able to be the preferred supplier of contracting and related services to new and existing customers in Bahrain and further afield.”
AMA Group is one of the largest construction groups in Bahrain, with activities comprising building construction, civil engineering, civil works for industrial infrastructure, piling and excavation works and marine works. Its expertise is stamped on several iconic projects in the kingdom, including Bahrain International Airport, Novotel Al Dana Resort, Abraj Al Lulu residential towers, multi-storey car-parks, shopping malls (City Centre and Sitra Mall). AMA has also provided mechanical, civil and electrical and instrumentation (E&I) works for the Hidd Phase Two power station for the Ministry of Electricity and Water in Bahrain; structural steel for the Alba-PS4 project for Alstom; and civil, mechanical and electrical and installation works for Alba Line 5 gas treatment centre (GTC) and flume treatment centre (FTC).
Recently, AMA started to implement the multimillion-dollar Praxair air separation project under construction at Bahrain International Investment Plant (BIIP), and is currently conducting reclamation work on the Lulu/Reef Island development, as well as at the multibillion-dollar Bahrain Bay mixed-use development.
Meanwhile, AMA’s Structural and Mechanical Division (SMD), with the largest steel fabrication facility in Bahrain, is the exclusive supplier of potshells to the Qatalum (Qatar), Sohar Aluminium (Oman), Emal (UAE), Alcoa (Iceland) and Maaden (Saudi Arabia) smelters. Recently, the large supply contract of potshells to the new smelter in Kitimat, Canada, was again proof of the competiveness of AMA. SMD also supplies the Sulb plant in Bahrain for Kobelco, as well as power vessels to Tatweer.
The group says the fabrication and erection of structural steel projects and – together with the other divisions of the group – the implementation of large integrated projects executed by one experienced contractor only is a core AMA competency.
AMA supports all of its projects through its building material divisions.
The trading business, meanwhile, includes AMA Motors, a partner for many of the world’s leading truck and construction equipment brands, while AMA Sports is the dealer for Puma and Technogym brands in Bahrain and Qatar. Finally, AMA’s joint ventures business includes Eastern Readymix, the largest producer of asphalt, precast and readymix in Bahrain.
In providing its broad portfolio of services the group has, it says, a reputation for the highest standards of quality, safety and environmental consistency and efficiency. International accreditations include ISO9001, ISO14001 and HACCP, as well as certification by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the National Board of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI).
AMA Group has forged alliances and business relationships with prestigious international companies such as Bechtel, Alstom, Bouygues, Italiampianti, Bierrum, Biwater, Cegelec, Foster Wheeler, Hyundai, JGC, Kobelco, Liebherr, MAN, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, NKM Noell, Sasakura Engineering and Solios.
AMA can be visited at Stand 1D31 at gulfBID.
