LUMIGLASS Industries, a Dubai Investments subsidiary, has trebled its capacity to produce bullet-resistant glass (BRG) by adding two new automated glass bending furnaces, following increased demand for bullet-resistant glass for both architectural and automotive applications in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe.
Commenting on the move, Faisal Rashed, general manager of Glass, the holding company of Lumiglass Industries, says: “The expansion aims to meet rising demand for bullet-resistant glass in the region. It also supports our strategic objective of increasing the company’s footprint in existing markets and foraying into new, high-potential markets.”
In 2006, Lumiglass was certified by Wiltshire Ballistic Services, the UK-based firm specialising in the testing of bullet and projectile-resistant materials.
The company recently unveiled plans to develop a new product under the brand name of Priva-Lum, which has the property of cutting out transparency and making the glass translucent, as a result of which privacy can be established for automotive and architectural glass.
