High efficiency ... Multi V units.

LG Electronics has won a major contract to supply a complete air-conditioning system for a five-star hotel in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

The hotel is part of a multi-billion-dollar development currently under way in the holy city, and the air-conditioners will be supplied through H G Ibrahim Shaker Company, LG’s distributor in Saudi Arabia.
The LG/Shaker bid for ‘Tower 180’ was approved from among three proposals submitted to project consultant Engineers Abdul Razak Hakeem.
All proposals were compared based on several factors, including capacity of outdoor boards, number of indoor units that could be linked to the system, cooling temperature, efficiency, in addition to other factors, says LG.
LG Electronics and Ibrahim Shaker will supply the hotel with a complete system including 26 Multi V 750 hp outdoor units in a single package of 25 tonnes and 305 indoor CCD units, says Simon Lee, general manager of LG Electronics in Saudi Arabia. The system will be controlled using a PC controller, which is a simple indoor controller, and the project will be completed by the year-end.
Monzer Khammash, western region CAC manager of Ibrahim Shaker Company, says LG’s Multi V technology had proven its efficiency and durability. “We launched Multi V technology for tropical regions last year, incorporating features and benefits for both the installer and end-user to give ease and flexibility of installation, high efficiency and low noise,” he says.
He continues: “Multi V Tropical outdoor units allow energy savings of up to a maximum of 70 per cent with its inverter system. They can operate in temperatures ranging from –5 deg C to 54 deg C. Their piping systems can run up to elevations of 100 m and lengths of 1,000 m. Multi V also has an easy control system, which is compatible with total solutions such as Homenet and Smart Homes.”
The ‘Tower 180’ five-star hotel has a ground, mezzanine and 14 floors and is part of six major developments launched by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz around the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.
Worth SR35 billion ($9.34 billion), the project includes expansion of the mosque’s northern courtyard and construction of residential towers to provide more housing and prayer facilities for pilgrims. The total area of the SR12-billion residential towers is estimated at 587,250 sq m, including five-star hotels, commercial centres and prayer facilities for 200,000 worshippers.
Saudi ABV General Contractors is the general contractor for the project.
