MANITOWOC CRANES of the US is celebrating 75 years of crane manufacturing with the launch of two new crane attachments, a new 250-tonne liftcrane and its new "CraneCARE" service brand.

The new products were displayed at the recent Intermat show in the UK.

The larger of the two attachments is the MAX-ER 2000 capacity-enhancement attachment for the Model 2250 crawler crane. The MAX-ER 2000 was displayed at the show with its 227-tonne capacity luffing jib.

Manitowoc also displayed the new 32-tonne capacity luffing jib for the Model 222 lattice-boom crawler crane.

"The new luffing jib's ability to provide outstanding reach and capacity in tight areas makes the 222 ideal for bridge work, commercial building construction, utility work and other applications requiring the ability to reach over structures with substantial loads. It lifts a cubic yard of concrete at a 45.7 m radius - a capability designed in right from the start, based on customer requests," says a spokesman for the company.

The 222 is a 91-tonne crawler crane introduced last spring.

Manitowoc also launched its new Model 999, a 250-tonne capacity lattice-boom crawler crane. The model was to be rolled out during this summer.

Manitowoc also showcased a computerised crane-operator-training simulator featuring the company's patented EPIC control system. Manufactured by Jason Associates of the US, the simulator is an exact duplicate of the operator's cab of Manitowoc's popular Model 2250, says the spokesman.

"The simulator's EPIC controls are fully functional, right down to system diagnostic messages and readouts for engine temperature. The simulator reacts realistically to each motion of a control lever with video and movement that precisely duplicates the feel of actual crane operation," he says.

Manitowoc also introduced its computerised product support programs, including the ground-bearing pressure estimator; capacity chart locator; crane selection program; electronic parts and service manuals, and compu-crane lift planning software.

"Manitowoc Cranes now has a new "CraneCARE" brand name for its worldwide product support system, including service training, parts availability, field service, technical support and technical documentation," says the spokesman.

Manitowoc Cranes, a subsidiary of The Manitowoc Company, designs and manufactures versatile, easily mobilised lattice-boom cranes and excavators used in heavy construction, material handling and surface mining worldwide.

The lifting capacities of its products range from 72 tonnes to more than 1,300 tonnes. Excavator capacities range from 9.1 tonnes to 22.7 tonnes. Comprehensive support is provided through a worldwide network of committed, professional distributors.
