Aldar Properties, Abu Dhabi’s largest real estate development firm, has signed up Arabian Construction Company (ACC) as the main contractor to build the towers within the Central Market redevelopment.

The Dh2.7 billion ($735 million) contract is the largest single building contract to be awarded in Abu Dhabi. The project, coming up in the heart of the city’s Central Business District, will see the redevelopment of the old suq with a focus on expanding the retail, residential, leisure and commercial sectors along with the reintroduction of a new, yet traditional, suq.
Designed by UK architects Foster & Partners, the Aldar project comprises a residential tower, five-star hotel tower, office tower and a four-star hotel, the residual retail podium being the final element and due for an award next month.
The 88-storey residential tower will be 382 m high and will be the tallest in Abu Dhabi. It will house 489 luxury apartments. The 55-storey five-star hotel tower will offer 279 rooms and 132 serviced apartments. The office tower will offer 58 storeys of prime office space while the smallest tower, of 16 storeys, will be a four-star hotel with 212 rooms.
