ARABTEC Construction, a subsidiary of Arabtec Holding, has been awarded a Dh2.59-billion ($705 million) contract for the construction of the second phase of the Gate Towers mixed-use development on Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi.

Under the contract, Arabtec will build a 61-storey residential tower of 613 furnished apartments as well as a 15-floor tower, which would comprise a 400-room five-star hotel and 200 serviced apartments, on a plot area of 32,000 sq m, offering a total built-up area of around 350,000 sq m.

The two new towers will be connected by a ballroom and a retail block extending 4,600 sq m in area.

The development will also have 3,275 sq m of food and beverage outlets and 3,795 sq m of function space. Negotiations are under way with a number of world-leading hospitality brands for the management of the hotel and serviced apartments.

The new towers are said to mark the final leg of the Gates Towers project, in which three residential towers connected by a striking arc have recently been completed.
