Preparation works for the construction of the main building for Bahrain's Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT) have begun.

Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning assistant undersecretary for construction and maintenance projects Mona Al Motawa said the ministry aims to construct the building based on the latest systems and technologies to create a healthy work environment that helps improve performance and services, a BNA report said.

"The preparation works are considered to be Phase One of the project. All electrical and mechanical services supplying the Gulf Air Academy would be transferred from the land belonging to the Ministry of Transport and Communications to the land belonging to Gulf Air for the purpose of preparing the main transport and communications building and getting rid of any obstacles that may hinder contracting works," said Al Motawa.

Work on the final designs for Phase Two of the project is presently under way, for which bids are to be invited soon, she added.

Phase One of the project was awarded to Al Moayyed Air Conditioning at a cost of BD480,000 ($1.271 million), while the consulting services and supervision were earlier awarded to Dar Al Khaleej Engineering.
