Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), the world’s largest single-site smelter, hit high notes in safety with the achievement of 25 million safe-working hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI) as well as marking the 8th consecutive summer with Zero heat-related injuries and illnesses.

Lauding the efforts of the employees and the contractor workers for the key achievement, Alba CEO Ali Al Baqali said: "Our 25 million safe-working hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI) and 8th consecutive safe summer are not merely numbers on a page; they represent a culture of Safety that has been meticulously woven into the fabric of Alba."

"This is more than just a milestone, it's a testament to the unwavering commitment and dedication of our employees and contractor workers,' he stated.

"Alba’s Safety culture is a mindset that we have built over the years through a proactive approach and combination of factors such as open communication, strong shopfloor presence for the management, and commitment to safety-focused programmes and campaigns," he stated.

"As we celebrate these milestones, we recognise that it is not the peak of our success, and our Safety journey will continue," he added.

Efforts to keep employees and contractor workers safe during the challenging summer season included plant-wide and departmental awareness campaigns, distribution of cooling cloths to personnel to help regulate body temperature, in addition to newly-introduced daily digital communication for heat index, reaching employees and contractor workers directly on their mobile phones with recommendations on proper water intake and recovery time between tasks, said the company in a statement.

In 2024, Alba has won multiple awards for its safety achievements - including four National Safety Council (NSC) USA awards the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) President's Award; and the prestigious British Safety Council (BSC)’s International Safety Award with Merit.-TradeArabia News Service
