ECOBILITY Energy Solutions has received an excellent response to its latest industrial lighting solution – Rise LED High Bay – which was introduced earlier this year by Illume Lighting, its wholly-owned energy-efficient lighting brand.
A number of logistics providers and industrial companies have already installed the LED (light emitting diode) innovation, says Wadah Abusin, commercial director at Ecobility, a UAE-based cleantech company with offices in Canada and the UK. “Since the launch, we have seen a rapid increase in uptake of the product by companies operating in remote areas without grid access. Onsite power generation, which is typically diesel-fuelled, can easily cost up to three times more than the grid rate, leading those organisations to actively seek energy-efficient products and practices.”
Abusin says a growing number of companies are installing the Rise series in new buildings “thereby incrementally building on the initial interest, which was mainly coming from the retrofit market”. Ecobility is now working with consultants to specify its LED solutions in projects which are seeking energy efficiency and green building status.
Ecobility’s director of strategy and innovation Karim Aly says: “Rise has been developed to replace conventional lights in high-ceilinged commercial and industrial applications like warehouses, exhibition centres and manufacturing facilities. Developed in Canada, the series is an alternative to metal halide and fluorescent lighting sources using literally a fraction of the power per fixture, offering energy savings of up to 70 per cent. With an estimated service life of more than 10 years, the Rise series is maintenance-free, eliminating the costly downtime associated with lamp replacement and repairs.”
The payback period for the fixtures can be as little as four months in new developments and areas without grid connection but the average number in a retrofit scenario with subsidised electricity is around the one-year mark, which is very attractive, says Ecobility.
The Rise fixtures are “instant-on” and reach full light intensity in under a second. Since there is no warm-up period, users can further reduce energy consumption by powering down the lights when they’re not needed or by using motion sensor controls.
“LEDs are also directional light sources and as a result, 100 per cent of the output is used to effectively light the target surface,” Aly says.
Agility Logistics was the first company in the UAE to install the Rise LED High Bay. Following successful results, both in terms of performance as well as operating cost savings, the company has embarked on a complete retrofit programme starting with its Dubai Investment Park facility.
“The Rise series is a high brightness solution providing an unparalleled quality of light that significantly reduces energy consumption and CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions,” says Aly. “Since they also operate virtually heat-free when compared to the metal halide alternative, they help reduce air-conditioning load and create a more comfortable environment while slashing expensive cooling costs at the same time.”
The Rise LED High Bay series comes in both 100 W and 150 W models, which replace 250 W and 400 W metal halide fixtures respectively, and is covered by a comprehensive three-year warranty.
