A joint venture of two UAE and Brazil companies has won a bid to build a second runway at the Abu Dhabi International Airport.
The contract is part of a Dh30 billion ($8.17 billion) airport development.
The contract, awarded to Odebrecht-Al Jaber, is worth Dh1 billion, says the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Airports Company, Khalifa Al Mazroui.
The companies beat off stiff competition from six other rival firms, short-listed by the Supervisory Committee for the Expansion of Abu Dhabi Airports (Scadia).
Odebrecht Al Jaber will construct a 4,100-m runway, spaced at a distance of 2,000 m from the existing runway. The work is to be completed in 18 months.
