The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has announced that it has begun implementing the key projects under the Second Group of the Riyadh Ring Roads and Main Axes Development Programme, aimed at strengthening the transportation system in the capital.
These include eight major road projects to be developed at a total cost of over SAR8 billion ($2.13 billion), as part of the programme launched by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, who is also chairman of the Board of Directors of RCRC.
The Riyadh Ring Roads and Main Axes Development Programme will contribute to keeping pace with the city’s increasing population growth, enhancing connectivity, improving traffic, raising the average speed of movement, and reducing travel time on the road network.
The projects under the Second Group of the Roads Programme include: Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al-Awwal Road Development Project (northern part); Al-Thumama Road Axis Development Project (middle part); Imam Abdullah bin Saud Road Development Project; Imam Muslim Road Development Project; Dirab Road Development Project; King Abdullah Financial District Road.
Work on the first four projects will raise the road’s total capacity to 200,000 vehicles per day.
The entire work on these projects will be completed within three years.
