Strabag, one of the leading construction companies in Europe, has secured the preliminary works contract for Phase One of Oman’s ambitious project – Sultan Haitham City – coming up in the capital Muscat.

Located on a 15 million-sq-m area, the Sultan Haitham City will boast 20,000 residential units along with several key amenities as well as 2.9 million sq m of green spaces.

The contract worth RO7 million ($18.1 million) was awarded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning to the Omani unit of Strabag.

The Austrian builder said the first phase of infrastructure preparation work has already begun and will continue for next three months, covering an area of more than 6 million sq m.

The scope of work includes the basic road infrastructure and rainwater drainage system, and levelling of the wadi for establishing a 1.6-million-sq-m central park.

On completion, the city, which will be spread over 19 neighbourhoods, will be home to nearly 100,000 residents.
