THE Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) said that the first consignment of locally produced non-class 1E cables from Dubai Cable Company (Ducab) has been delivered to the UAE’s nuclear plant under construction in Barakah.

The cables will be used for non-class 1E power and lighting at the four units at the Barakah nuclear site.

The high quality cables have successfully passed the 60-year operating life qualification test. ENEC’s equipment qualification (EQ) team witnessed the final part of the eight-month long-term test, conducted in Kinectrics in Toronto, Canada, earlier this year to confirm that the different types of cables meet the corporation’s stringent operational and safety requirements.

The first shipment of 324,000 ft of  cables out of the total 16 million ft on order was delivered to ENEC at the end of January, as per the first release to manufacture (RTM). These cables will be used for Unit One under construction.

“Our team has been working since 2011 to develop this range of premium and extended long-life cables made to American and NQA (National Quality Assurance) standards,” said Hassan Omar, general manager – technical and quality, Ducab.
