Vector Technology of the UK says its laser-based Lift-Master CCTV provides cost-effective surveillance of passenger and freight lifts.

By providing security monitoring stations with real-time broadcast quality pictures and sound, the Lift-Master improves safety and security in residential, commercial, local authority and government buildings by eliminating a potential safe haven for the activities of vandals, thieves and terrorists, says Vector managing director Ken Owen.

''Lift-Master's real-time information provides an early warning of illegal or potentially dangerous situations and allows security staff to respond with real-time actions, and the high-quality pictures and sound also enable accurate identification of offenders, making the work of security officers and the police much easier,'' he says.

Elaborating on its features, Owen continues: "Lift-Master incorporates Vector's proven OptraLink technology. The system uses a modulator to transfer outputs from the lift-mounted camera and microphone onto a carrier signal. The signal is then fed into a laser transmitter mounted to the top or underside of the lift car. The beam from the laser is directed at an optical receiver located at the top or bottom of the lift shaft and is effective at up to 100 floors.

"The receiver converts the beam back into an electrical signal that is then transmitted by cable to a demodulator at the security monitoring station. The security station can be located up to 500 m from the receiver.

"Using a laser rather than a cable to transmit signals inside the lift shaft ensures the highest quality sound and pictures. It also eliminates costly and complicated cable installations, allowing the Lift-Master to be fitted or retrofitted in hours rather than days. System maintenance is also reduced as cable wear in the lift shaft is eliminated. The Lift-Master receiver needs only a wipe of its glass during scheduled lift maintenance.

"The Lift-Master is compatible with all cameras and monitors. It meets all current standards for communications equipment, all national and international laser safety standards and EMC emission standards for CE certification. It also eliminates cross talk between adjacent systems."

System options include sound monitoring, a rugged flat screen LCD monitor, discreet or covert camera and covert microphone.
