The first 487 units of a two-phase housing project in Bahrain’s East Hidd area are nearly complete, said a top official.

Eighty-five per cent of the construction and infrastructure work has been completed and families could soon receive keys to their new homes in East Hidd, said Sami Buhazza, under-secretary for housing projects.

A total of 4,548 units are to be built as part of the development.  It will cover an area of 227 hectares and is divided into 15 villages.  These units include 2,827 villas, 1,212 flats and 509 plots.

Contracts have also been awarded for a further 398 housing units, work on which is now 40 per cent completed, said Buhazza.

A further 740 units are now in a technical evaluation stage, while tenders have been invited for 507 other units, he said.
