Diyar Al Muharraq ... mixed-use development.

With more than 70 per cent of reclamation work complete, Diyar Al Muharraq has signed a $14.4 million deal with Hyder Consulting to provide design and supervision services for the first 6 sq km of the ambitious 12-sq-km project.

Situated on the northern shores of Muharraq island, the $3.2 billion project is one of the biggest mixed-use residential urban developments ever undertaken by the private sector in Bahrain,  offering a range of freehold properties accessible to buyers across all income levels.
The planned properties are expected to number 30,000, and house more than 100,000 people on completion.
Hyder Consulting will supervise early infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, traffic, geotechnical, water, electricity, communication, sewerage, drainage, district cooling and landscape architecture. Hyder Consulting Bahrain will lead the project, assigning various tasks to its international offices, including several UK offices, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Manila and Hong Kong.
“We have finished 70 per cent of the reclamation ahead of time, thanks to the expertise of our internationally experienced consultants,” says Diyar Al Muharraq CEO Aaref Hejres. “Our vision is to create a unique city for the future, offering a choice of housing and a quality lifestyle for all.”
Diyar Al Muharraq’s masterplan maps out a self-contained city with landscaped public spaces, incorporating around 40 km of waterfront which includes sandy beaches and a marina. This will be among the largest public waterfronts in the kingdom. The development also includes provision for numerous community spaces and facilities, abundant landscaping, a number of international five-star hotels and a large shopping mall with extensive parking, a business district and light logistic and support area.
Hejres says that the current cement crunch in Bahrain will not impact the construction schedule of Diyar Al Muharraq. “The biggest challenge for us has been to design a city with so many kinds of land use. It was a challenge that has been ably handled by Scott Wilson associates and our team.”
Developers will be given strict timelines to complete construction so that the community will achieve its vision, adds Hejres.
