The designs and location for a new Sports City in Sharjah have been approved by HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Work on the detailed designs is expected to start soon.
The city, which will be built at a site selected by the Sharjah Ruler, will feature four sports complexes catering to both team and individual sports, according to Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, member of the Executive Council and Head of The Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW).
Al Suwaidi said the Ruler of Sharjah personally sketched the design for the city, which includes a central square intersected by four main roads leading to the city. At the centre of this main square will be the Sports City Stadium, to be developed in Phase One and has been designed as an architectural icon, embodying the concept of a bird soaring over sand dunes.
