LG Electronics and Shaker officials mark the introduction of VRF technology at the LG-Shaker factory.

Global technology and electronics brand LG Electronics has announced that it has recently transferred its cutting-edge Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) production technology to its LG-Shaker factory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The factory will primarily produce the LG Multi V5 which features VRF technology that enhances energy efficiency and supports the dynamic needs of modern infrastructure. The Multi V5 produced in Saudi Arabia provides efficient air-conditioning by sensing temperature and humidity at the same time.

“Furthermore, Multi V 5 has highest efficiency with core technologies like an innovative compressor with oil level sensor and heat exchanger,” says a spokesman for LG Electronics. “It is used specially in high-rise, hospitality, and mega projects, thanks to its reliability as well as its energy-saving features and space efficiency.”

Its innovative features include the capability to connect to multiple indoor units to a single outdoor unit, a long piping length and the flexibility to be installed at heights. It also minimises installation space and saves on operation costs, due to its partial load operation logic.

The manufacturing facility is a key air-conditioner production centre in the kingdom and one of the 11 global factories that manufacture high-quality LG air conditioners. It was opened in 2008 in a partnership between LG Electronics and Al Hassan Ghazi Ibrahim Shaker Co (Shaker), Saudi Arabia’s leading importer, manufacturer and distributor of air-conditioners and home appliances

Apart from introducing the manufacture of VRF air conditioning systems, the factory has also been expanding its production lines year after year. The LG-Shaker factory uses cutting-edge automation technology, deploying industrial robots and artificial intelligence that results in increased output. While helping grow local manufacture of various components, the facility has also boosted the company’s competitiveness in the Saudi market, says LG Electronics.

These Saudi-made air-conditioners are currently exported to 30 countries around the world.

The factory also supplies mega projects in Saudi Arabia, including commercial projects such as Roshn’s real estate developments, various buildings, schools as well as Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Additionally, LG will also be providing the Multi V 5 HVAC system to Makkah’s Mina project, which aims to provide cooling in the holy camp sites with 7,500 tons of air-conditioning. These units are set to be delivered this month.

LGE MEA CEO llhwan Lee comments: “Our commitment to our customers and shareholders is a key priority and we aim to provide the best. We look forward to further developing our facility’s capabilities.”

Mohammed Ibrahim Abunayyan, Chief Executive Officer of Shaker Group, says: “This partnership represents a significant milestone in our journey towards enhancing local manufacturing capabilities under the ‘Saudi Made initiative’ and aligning with the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program as part of Vision 2030.

“Working alongside LG for the Multi V5, we offer cutting-edge Saudi-made technologies, enabling us to deliver products that are synonymous with quality, reliability, and eco-friendliness. Our aim is to continually enhance our market presence, align with consumer demands, and provide unparalleled value to our customers and the wider community.”

Shaker Group early this year announced that it has signed an agreement with LG Electronics and the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia (MISA) to manufacture AC compressors in the kingdom.

This marks a significant leap towards localising the production of the most technologically complex component of AC units – the compressor – in the kingdom.

According to MISA, the project will get the go-ahead upon the completion of the feasibility study.
