The Avenues mall in Kuwait ... one of Schindler’s major projects.

Switzerland-based Schindler, one of the leading global manufacturers of elevators, escalators and moving walks, has been chosen as the elevator provider for Egypt’s new city of Madinaty near Cairo.

The new city will be equipped with 299 units of the Schindler 3300, a superior elevator developed specifically for residential accommodation to provide mobility in upmarket apartment blocks in this ambitious oasis development.
Once complete in 2010, technicians from Schindler will be based permanently on site as part of the group’s total service commitment.
“The Schindler 3300 is perfect for this type of project since, as the newest mobility products on the market, it provides unrivalled reliability and is extremely versatile. It can be used for buildings up to 15 storeys high,” says Sergio Escalante, managing director of Schindler Egypt.
Its cabins can be decorated in a huge variety of colours and surfaces to complement a building’s décor, and it is cost effective and simple to maintain, thanks to its standardised components, Escalante adds.
Described as a city of international standards, Madinaty is a collaborative effort among three top US architectural firms. The developer is the Hisham Talaat Mostafa Group, one of Egypt’s leading real estate firms, focused particularly on large-scale city and community complexes, as well as luxury hotels and resorts. The development will be able to house up to 400,000 residents, with all the amenities a community would need including schools, universities, office parks, retail areas and golf courses and will be built in three stages.
The Schindler Group has already supplied mobility solutions for El Rehab, another city development near Cairo, as well as the Four Seasons hotel.
Among other developments in the Middle East, Schindler has acquired a 49 per cent stake in Al Doha Elevators and Escalators, which has now been renamed as Al Doha Schindler Elevators and Escalators. The Qatar lifts company was set up by Sheikh Saoud bin Khalid Al Thani, a member of the ruling family, as the exclusive distributor (sale, installation and maintenance) of all Schindler elevator and escalator products in Qatar in 2005. The move allows Schindler to participate directly in one of the world’s fastest-growing construction markets. It has also worked on the prestigious The Avenues, which is one of the largest malls of Kuwait.
Schindler Group, claimed to be the largest supplier of escalators and the second largest manufacturer of elevators worldwide, is present in more than 130 countries, designs. The company installs, services and modernises elevator and escalator systems for almost every building type and has around 40,000 employees. Globally, Schindler equipment moves more than 700 million people per day and its operations span all five continents.
