Zahid Tractor, the sole distributor of Volvo trucks in Saudi Arabia and a partner in the local production, has recently launched a range of locally produced trucks at its factory at Jeddah, which will have a capacity to assemble more than 1,000 trucks annually.

The assembly plant at present produces four trucks a day with an average of 18 trucks a week. It hopes to have a production capacity of 650 trucks within a year and will increase the number to 1,000 by the next year. Workers at the plant are currently assembling trucks using as many as 1,500 parts.
“We are proud to provide Swedish quality trucks produced by Saudi hands. Currently two truck models are being rolled out in the plant which include FH for long haul and FM for the construction industry with both trucks equipped with diesel engines of 13-litre displacement that produce 440 and 400 HP, respectively,” says Samir Al-Shubaily, leading executive of Zahid Tractors.
Located at Kilo 14, Makkah Ring Road in Jeddah, the plant is a joint project between the Swedish Volvo Group, one of the world’s largest producers of heavy trucks, and local company Zahid Tractor, and has a well trained technical and administrative team operating the new assembly plant. The joint venture of the Arabian Trucks and Cars Manufacturing Company was formed in 1998 to assemble Volvo trucks in the form of completely knocked down units.
