Axis Communications has launched a new multidirectional high-image resolution camera which provides flexible positioning of four varifocal camera heads in one camera, offering a panoramic overview, or a combination of overviews and zoomed in details.

The Axis P3717-PLE network camera, with an integrated weather shield, can be used in any outdoor or indoor area. The compact 8-megapixel camera with its four varifocal lenses enables high-quality 360-degree overview and details in multiple directions – making it ideal for surveillance of wide areas, outer corners of buildings, and intersections of hallways or roads.

The camera’s IR illumination with individually controllable LEDs provide clear images even in low light or darkness. With 360-degree IR illumination, Forensic WDR and Lightfinder this camera delivers excellent image quality. Axis Zipstream facilitates reduced bandwidth and storage needs.

Furthermore, the four-in-one camera enables a lower overall cost for cabling and installation services and includes a redundancy system between the SD card and server should the connection with the server fail, says a spokesman for Axis Communications. It requires one network cable, one IP address, one video management software (VMS) licence and one analytics licence. AXIS P3717-PLE also offers remote zoom and focus for fast, accurate installation.

The camera recently emerged winner in the ‘Video Surveillance Camera of The Year Award’ category at the first inaugural Intersec Awards in Dubai, UAE.
